Abstract: Qantas flight diverted to Baku (Azerbaijan) due to a medical emergency. Hundreds stranded as crew exceeded duty time. Flight resumes Sept 10.

Hundreds of Qantas passengers are stranded in Azerbaijan after a flight was forced to divert.

The Airbus A380 aircraft was reportedly en route from London to Singapore when it had to change course due to a medical emergency on board.

A Qantas spokesperson said: "Our London to Singapore flight diverted to Baku, Azerbaijan yesterday due to a medical incident on board. We apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience and are working to get them to Singapore as soon as possible."

The plane did not make an emergency landing, and there were no issues with the aircraft itself. However, the diversion meant the crew reached their duty time limit for the day, so the flight could not continue. The aircraft was scheduled to undergo routine maintenance in Singapore, but these checks will now be carried out in Baku, and a specialist A380 engineer will fly from London to Baku.

9News understands that Qantas will provide overnight accommodation for all passengers. The flight to Singapore is expected to resume on Tuesday, September 10, Baku time.
